Looking for Yukon Farm Job

My name is Joachim GAYRARD, I am a 24 years old french resident. I am looking for the opportunity to discover boreal agriculture and Yukon Territory witch fascinate me for many years. Thanks to a Canadian/French exchange program named 'Young Professional', I have the possibility to move and work in a Canadian farm during two years. The only condition is that I find a paid job in my area of studies and competence.

I would like to ask you to broadcast my request in your Yukon farmer network...

Concerning my studies, I complete a two-years diploma in agronomy and grains & forage growing followed by a second diploma specialized in Organic farming. Particularly enthusiast in cattle farming, I have many expérience in beef and sheep farms in France, and also in crop farm, pigs, poultry and truck farming.

I am a very good horseman, a fine rider and I have break-in different kind of horses with ethological method.

As I know that agriculture in Yukon is mainly seasonal, I can propose my other skills for the winter season :

 - I have experience in restaurants and cooking (pastry, pizzas, french cooking) and I have a lot of very good recipes that I will bring with me.

- I have two winter season of sled dog handling for one of the best Canadian musher (Lou SERRE, Markstay ON). I am found of sled dogs and by the way, these two winter of handling make me aware concerning the Canadian's winter reality.

- I am an hunter and I have a very good bird dog ( a Munsterlander breed), found of hunt and water games.

Concerning my personality, I am a very polite and cheerful person, always happy to help. I am a very hard worker, strong enough for all kind of farm work. I am 6 ft tall, in very good shape.I really love outdoors activities and Canadian outback way of life and I am really not demanding concerning confort.  Weak points : I am not really skilled in mechanics, construction and fishing (but really motivated to improve myself !)

I am available now and you can contact me by email : joachim.g@live.fr or by phone : 0033 6 330 026 97

 Best regards.

Potluck Food Co-op reaching out to producers

Hello Producers,

We are nearing 18 months of operation, and the Yukon growing season is quickly upon us!

Last year, we sold $15,500 of Yukon products to our members. We sold our last Yukon root vegetables in mid-February, and some early greens were happily snapped up in early March. Our members are passionate about locally grown food, and it is our mission to work with producers to grow more and reduce our dependence on food from the south.

We are now open EVERY week (Tuesday and Wednesday) for impulse purchases, and every other week as before for online orders.

With that in mind, we are reaching out to all our producers - those of you who have worked with us before or are currently, and those who have not yet. We would love to hear:

  • If you have worked with us: what worked and what can we improve upon
  • How can we work together for even greater success this year
  • What are you planning on growing this year, and would you consider selling to Potluck
We are happy to meet in person, chat on the phone, or over email to hear from you and plan the coming growing season for our mutual success. Just let us know what works for you - we know this is a very busy time of year for you!

Looking forward to working with you,

Christina Sobol
(on behalf of the Board of Directors)
